History

IndUS Aviation, established in 1994, is a privately owned U.S. based corporation dedicated to the development of General Aviation in India, while bringing innovative aviation products to the USA, UK and other countries around the world.

IndUS was founded by Ram Pattisapu, MD. Ram was born in India and immigrated to the USA with his family at the age of 13. Although an accomplished surgeon, his deep interest and love of aviation has led him to finish flight training along with his medical studies in the US in 1980. He holds a private pilots license, with instrument and multi engine instrument ratings and currently has over 700 hours of flying time in a wide variety of aircraft. Having owned as many as five different aircraft over the past several years, he has developed a very strong network of friends and colleagues in the field of aviation as well as medicine. In addition, he holds patents for development of two devices that are designed for enhancement of aviation safety, which he hopes to manufacture through Indus in India. He is a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Experimental Aviation Association and many medical and surgical societies.

IndUS plans to manufacture light aircraft in India at highly competitive costs for export to other countries as well as use in India. IndUS will also facilitate the acquisition of personal and business aircraft for Indian customers and offer maintenance and support of small aircraft flying in India.

Mission

IndUS is committed to making flying affordable and fun for everyone. We believe that flying personal aircraft should be available at reasonable costs throughout the world. Through innovative collaborations, IndUS is dedicated to manufacturing high quality, low-cost airplanes in India and the United States for sale throughout the world.

Vision

The business plan for Indus Aviation involves the manufacture of light (two and four passenger) aircraft for flight training and personal use at extremely competitive prices. We aim to become the leading manufacturer of light aircraft for personal use and training worldwide. We also plan to incorporate the latest technological developments in our aircraft and utilize state of the art manufacturing techniques to bring extraordinary value to the General Aviation Market. We believe that personal flying should be accessible to everyone. Over the past few decades, General Aviation has priced itself out of the ordinary person’s reach, due to a variety of reasons, some of which can be controlled. At IndUS, we are confident that through innovative collaborations across the globe, and a fresh new approach to light aircraft manufacturing, we can make flying fun and affordable for all who wish to fly.

About Us

IndUS has acquired the type certificate, production certificate, appropriate licensing and permits for the manufacture of an all-metal, single-engine aircraft, the Thorp T-211, designed by the world renowned aircraft designer, John Thorp. All the required tooling for the parts needed to assemble this aircraft, as well as a large reserve of already manufactured parts to produce the first 30 such aircraft have been obtained. In addition, we have two flying models of this aircraft, one VFR and the other full IFR equipped. IndUS has formed a strong working partnership with Taneja Aerospace and Aviation, Limited (TAAL), of Bangalore, India. This company is the leading manufacturer of aviation products and aircraft in India, with expertise ranging from light composite aircraft to twin engined aircraft, turboprops and military/space related aviation products. The manufacturing plant for IndUS will be located within the facilities of TAAL in the city of Bangalore in Southern India. The final assembly of aircraft for markets outside the USA will be accomplished in IndUS’ 11,000 square foot hangar facility at the Dallas Executive Airport, in Dallas, Texas, USA. This would give us ready access for exporting finished aircraft as well as importation of any needed parts or materials for assembly. We have established networks with aviation maintenance Technology Training Institution in Dallas to assist us in the assembly of these aircraft as well.

Deployment of Phase I of the above plan is scheduled to begin by mid August, 2003. Barring any major obstacles, the assembly of the first aircraft should be begun by August 15th, 2003 in the USA and October 15th in India. In Phase II, by the end of the year 2003, IndUS plans to produce two aircraft per month, as well as produce parts and sub-assemblies for export purposes. In Phase III IndUS will increase production to three aircraft per month (mid-July, 2004) along with acquisition of rights for assembly and support of four-passenger aircraft in India. In addition to manufacturing complete aircraft for sale in India and elsewhere, IndUS plans to build EZ-Build kits for the home builder. With these kits, nearly half of the assembly process is completed for a cost that is only slightly higher than the basic airframe parts kit. We plan to offer builder assistance programs at our Dallas facility as well.

Through its collaborative efforts with Luscombe Aircraft Corporation of Altus, Oklahoma, USA, IndUS will be soon offering a newly produced four-passenger aircraft with similar options, ease of operations and economy. We can also facilitate the acquisition of larger, six and eight passenger aircraft from other countries for the business and personal flying needs of the Indian public.
